About Rooted Mitten English Labs
About our program
We are a small family-owned breeding program, located in SE Michigan, specializing in the English Labrador Breed. We currently offer litters in White & Fox Red coloring (each being on the opposite color spectrum of the AKC yellow color). We pride ourselves on maintaining the genetic composition of the Labrador Retriever and will never offer diluted or health-compromised puppies. Each of our Dams has been well socialized, genetically & OFA tested, and live within our family home.
As a family, we want to share the joy that this amazing breed brings to our lives.
Puppy Process
1.) Is a Lab right for you?
Make sure an English Labrador Retriever is a good fit for your family and your lifestyle.
2.) Contact Us:
Fill out our "Puppy Questionnaire" at the bottom of our website, and tell us about your family, lifestyle, history with dogs, and what you are looking for in your next forever family member. After receiving your Puppy Questionnaire, we will contact you with any questions we may have, and provide you with the deposit information to secure your puppy.
3.) Deposit:
After we agree that a Rooted Mitten Lab puppy is a great fit for you, we will send you a deposit agreement. You will then place a non-refundable deposit for a current litter, or an upcoming litter. Your deposit will go towards the total price of your puppy. We are so excited to welcome you to the Rooted Mitten Labrador Family!
*We completely understand that things come up, and that situations occur. Please do not hesitate to reach out, so we can try & help. Deposits can be transferred one time. If withdrawing from a litter, this needs to occur before the puppies are 4 weeks old. If you withdraw after the age of 4 weeks, we keep your deposit. If you need to back out a second time, we will keep your deposit. We will place your deposit on hold, and put it towards a future litter/pairing of your choosing.
*Rooted Mitten Labs reserves the right to hold back first pick male or female for our own breeding program. All picks are first come, first serve. We go by the date you secured your deposit.
4.) Updates:
Get weekly updates on your puppy! Don’t forget to join our Facebook Group! We post a lot of updates there for everyone to see.
5.) Puppy Picks:
We start puppy picks at six weeks of age, after the first set of vaccinations. Puppy picks can take place at our home, over video chat, or videos/pictures. Whatever works best for your family, we can try to accommodate and will contact you to schedule a time.
6.) Prepare for your Puppy:
Schedule your puppy’s first well puppy exam for a day or two after pick up. We recommend when scheduling this appointment, to also schedule future vaccination appointments. Vet appointments are becoming difficult to make, and planning ahead sets you up for success. It’s time to start preparing your home for your new puppy. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
7.) Puppy Pick-Up Day:
Yay! The day you have been waiting for! We will schedule a time for you to pick up your puppy. Every puppy comes de-wormed, up to date on age-appropriate vaccinations, and will receive a bath and nail trimming before pick up. We will go over your puppy swag bag to include the necessary paperwork and final payment. Once completed, it’s time to take your puppy home! If you need us to meet you half-way or at a local airport, we will schedule this ahead of time.

Puppy Pricing & Information
To reserve your puppy, you must place a $300 non-refundable deposit, with the remaining balance due upon pick up, at 8 weeks old. All puppies come with Limited AKC Registration. Full Registration is not offered at this time.
All of our Labs are a variation of the AKC yellow coloring (we NEVER dilute):
"White": $2,000
"Fox-Red": $2,000
We take deposits on a first come, first serve basis after breeding confirmation has occurred. When placing your deposit, we will ask you for specifics on gender and color (if applicable). We accept Venmo, Zelle, or Cash to reserve your puppy (and when paying your final balance). All deposits are non-refundable, however they are transferable one time to another upcoming litter, if the Dam does not produce the color or gender of your choosing. We will announce pregnancy & due date information as it comes, and will share with everyone the results of each ultrasound & x-ray.
All picks are made after six weeks of age after the puppies have received their first set of vaccinations. The remaining balance is due upon pick up at 8 weeks of age. We do not offer puppy flight transportation, but will be happy to meet you at a nearby airport (Metro Detroit or Flint), or we can meet you half-way within the State of Michigan, both requiring additional fees.
The health of our dogs and puppies is our top priority. With that being said, we have certain rules that must be followed.
- We do not allow any visitors before the puppies have received their first vaccinations at 6 weeks of age.
- We do not allow visitors to come where the puppies are whelped and raised to avoid contamination.
- We ask that you do not visit other kennels/pounds etc. two weeks prior to visiting our home.
- When visiting the puppies, you will be asked to remove your shoes upon coming into our home. We ask that you wash your hands before touching or handling any of the puppies.
